Full Description
Another excellent group of twelve original woven silk cigarette cards, from the iconic Flags of the World series produced by Godfrey Phillips / B.D.V. Cigarettes, circa 1910–1920. Each design is finely printed on soft silk, with colours that have remained remarkably vivid for over a century.
In this collection:
• 🇨🇺 Cuba (#68) — classic Cuban flag
• 🇵🇪 Peru — national flag with coat of arms
• 🏝️ Hawaiian Islands (#78) — highly desirable, always sought-after
• 🌍 French Colonies — East (#77) — scarce colonial flag
• 🇨 China Merchant Flag (#69) — distinctive historic red flag with golden disc — appears twice, so one is a free duplicate!
• 🇩🇴 Santo Domingo (#25) — early Dominican Republic flag
• 🇭🇳 Honduras (#24) — early national flag
• 👑 Japan Imperial Standard (#12) — beautiful imperial chrysanthemum flag
• 🇮🇹 Italy (#23) — early Italian flag with royal arms
• 🏛️ Cape Colony (#30) — very collectible South African colonial flag
• 🏴 Brunswick (#32) — historic German state flag
Condition: All cards display beautifully — colours are bright and clear. Edges are mostly crisp with natural, gentle fraying consistent with age. The Cuba card has a small corner fold; otherwise these are in lovely vintage order. The Hawaiian Islands and Cape Colony are definite standout pieces.
