Designed to look Like the work of Kate Greenaway who had been successful for Edmund Evans with Under The Window Frederick Warne wanted to rival it and engaged Henry Hetherington Emmerson to emulate Greenaway style and this he successfully did. Greenaway’s friend Frederick Locker-Lampson says that this book is a "shameful imitation of your manner, [which] if it goes on will tend to disgust the brutal British public and therefore injure you")
