1957 Secret Seven Adventure - Enid Blyton (George Brook Illust) Brockhampton Press. Hardback with dust jacket unclipped. Jacket has nibbles and closed tears but over all ok
Bored during the holidays, the Secret Seven – Peter, Janet, Jack, Colin, George, Pam, and Barbara – decide to play a game of "Indian" hide-and-seek on Thicket Hill near Milton Manor. Colin, who doesn’t have a costume, hides in a tree and spots a strange man climbing the manor’s wall. Peter also encounters the man, mistaking him for Colin at first, before the stranger flees.
The next day, the gang learns that a priceless pearl necklace has been stolen from Lady Lucy Thomas’s bedroom at Milton Manor – and they realize they saw the thief escape. They investigate the manor grounds, finding clues like a piece of blue-and-red wool and a dirty cap, and deduce the thief must be an acrobat (to climb the high wall).
Their suspicion leads them to a local circus, where Peter and George sneak into a caravan to investigate. They get trapped inside but overhear the thieves talking, confirming one of them is Louis the acrobat. With the help of the police, the gang tracks down the stolen necklace hidden in a lion’s cage, and Louis is arrested. The Secret Seven celebrate their successful second mystery.
